About the Wet Tropics Restoration Alliance

The Wet Tropics Restoration Alliance (the Alliance) is a collective of organisations and individuals working together to ensure the long-term survival of the Wet Tropics of Queensland under a changing and unstable climate. The Alliance brings together Traditional Owners, researchers, landscape restoration practitioners, community and conservation groups, and landholders to scale up effective, on-ground restoration while supporting a resilient green economy that protects the region’s natural and cultural assets.

How the Alliance began

Established in 2022, the Alliance operates as an independent collaborative network. Operational support is provided by the Wet Tropics Management Authority until December 2026, with additional in-kind support from James Cook University and Terrain NRM. These organisations are often referred to as the founding or supporting partners.

While supported by these partners, the Alliance is designed to operate independently and to represent the interests of its members.

Governance and coordination

To support independent decision-making, an Alliance Steering Group (ASG) has been appointed through an independent selection process. The ASG provides strategic oversight and direction on behalf of Alliance members.

The Alliance is supported by a dedicated Coordinator and Support Officer, employed by the Wet Tropics Management Authority. Together, they progress the Alliance's workplan developed in consultation with members through the ASG.

What we offer

The Alliance delivers a range of activities to bring together its members and the broader restoration sector, including:

  • workshops, field days and networking events

  • opportunities for professional learning and knowledge sharing

  • facilitation of collaboration, partnerships and resource sharing

Through these activities, the Alliance aims to strengthen connections across the region and improve the effectiveness and scale of restoration efforts in the Wet Tropics.
