In early September 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting a Restoration Methods Workshop and field trip on the beautiful Ngadjon-Jii Country in Malanda. The event brought together over 60 passionate individuals to explore different approaches for reinstating and restoring native vegetation.

Highlights of the Day:

  • The warm Welcome to Country from Aunty Eliza Morta, Ngadjon-Jii Elder.

  • Talks on diverse restoration methods, presentations included:

    • Assisted Natural Regeneration by Kylie Freebody

    • Ongoing Trials to Reduce Costs by Peter Rowles

    • Direct Seeding Insights by Bess Murphy

    • Massey Creek Wide-Spaced Revegetation Trials by Peter Snodgrass

    • The Need for All Restoration Tools to Restore the Lost Wet Tropics Forests by Dr. Noel Preece

    • Woodland Restoration by Jacqui Diggins.

  • Field trips to:

    • North Johnstone Rainforest Eco-Trail, facilitated by Malanda Landcare, with a talk from Christine Wolf of Tablelands Regional Council

    • Thirlmere Gully, facilitated by Terrain NRM’s Project Coordinator, Evizel Seymour.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us. Your commitment and dedication to restoring the Wet Tropics made the day a wonderful success. Special thanks to our speakers and field site hosts; and the local bakery for fuelling us with their delicious catering.
