A Gippsland family has donated a 105-hectare property to conservation organisation BioDiversity Legacy Ltd (BDL) ensuring the land is permanently protected and cared for by the local community.
The Phillipson family of Maffra West Upper has gifted their property, North Paddock, as the first of three planned donations. Located on Gunaikurnai Country, the site supports Lowland Forest, Herb-rich Forest (depleted) and Swamp Scrub (endangered) communities, along with several threatened plant species. It also strengthens habitat connectivity between nearby conservation reserves.
The family has long been involved in local conservation through restoration work and the community initiative EcoGipps. Donating the property ensures the land’s restoration is sustained, its title secured, and community stewardship maintained for the long term.
BDL works with landholders and local communities to create lasting conservation outcomes, helping land and biodiversity values remain protected while fostering strong local stewardship.
